Well Plate Probes

Well plate probes are compatible with Pavone, Piuma and Chiaro nanoindenters. These probes are suitable for use with 6-, 12-, 24-, 48-, 96-well plates and other deep dishes.

Training Probes Package

500

Five probes, available either in well plate or petri dish format, plus a hydrogel sample. These probes are ideal for training new users or experimenting with new protocols, eg. tip functionalization. Note that these probes are NOT calibrated, and available in a single stiffness and tip radius combination (2-7 N/m, est. radius 100 μm). Only suitable for qualitative measurements and training.

Given a sample, the suitability of a probe stiffness/tip radius combination depends on its properties and test parameters such as indentation depth. To ensure optimal results, we suggest reviewing the literature for similar samples, and evaluating the probe choice with our probe calculator. You can find the spreadsheet in the customer package folder, located on the desktop of the computer that came with your nanoindenter. More about probes

All our probes are pre-calibrated* and reusable force sensors compatible with the respective Optics11 Life Nanoindenters. The probes are cantilever-based with an optical-fiber interferometric readout and are manufactured at our headquarters in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Depending on the application, the spring constant of the probe can be chosen between 0.025 N/m and 50 N/m which can measure elastic modulus between 10Pa and 1GPa. The unique feature of our probes is the large cantilever bending (up to 20μm) which allows to measure stiffness values spanning up to 5 orders of magnitude with a single probe. Spherical (colloidal) glass tips mounted onto the cantilever can be chosen from 3 µm to 250 µm in radius to perform single indentations or indentation mapping at various depths/loads and resolutions.

*The exact specifications of the probes may differ slightly from the catalog value, typically within a range of 20%. Due to the probes’ ability to measure across several orders of magnitude, all probes within this range are compatible with the same samples. The uncertainty (k = 2) of the stiffness calibration is at most 5% (10% for 0.025 N/m probes) and the tip radius is measured to the nearest half-micrometer.
